Residential DSL Self-Installation Instructions
Installation of dbTech's residential DSL service is fairly straight-forward. Little configuration is required on your end to get up and running.
The first thing to check is if you receive “Sync” on your modem. To do this, perform the following steps:
- Remove the modem from the box, including the modem itself, the power adapter, phone line, and ethernet cord.
- Plug the modem into the wall, but do not flip the switch on the back of the modem on just yet.
- Attach the included phone cord from the phone line DSL service was installed on to the port on the back of the modem labelled “DSL”.
- Attach the included ethernet cord from your ethernet card on your computer (looks like a wide phone jack) to the port on the back of the modem labelled “LAN”.
- With all cords connected, flip the modem on (there is a rocker switch located on the back of the modem; it should be in the up position). Allow 30-120 seconds to elapse, and take a look at the lights on the front of the modem. The DSL Link light should be solid green. Both lights under LAN should also be solid green. If they are not, please follow the instructions below.
- Follow the steps below if your DSL Link light is not solid or blinking. If it is solid, you may skip these steps.
- Ensure all phone cables going from your telephone line to the modem are connected properly and securely.
- Be sure there is a DSL filter installed on every other device plugged into the phone line that the DSL service is installed on. If you do not have enough filters, please contact us regarding obtaining more.
- If you do not obtain “sync” with filters installed on all devices, try once more with all devices unplugged from the telephone line except for your DSL modem.
- If you cannot obtain “sync” with all other telephone devices unplugged, it may be nececssary to plug into your NID to attempt to gain “sync”.
- If you follow all of these steps and still do not obtain “sync”, contact us.
- Follow the steps below if your LAN Link light is not solid. If it is solid, you may skip these steps.
- Ensure all ethernet cables going from your DSL modem to your computer are connected properly and securely.
- Verify that your computer's ethernet card is installed properly. If using a laptop, verify any PCMCIA cards are secured., if necessary.
- Be certain you have the ethernet cable plugged into the “LAN” port on the modem and not the “console” port.
- If you follow all of these steps and still do not obtain “sync”, contact us.
- If you have not done so already, please provide us with your ethernet card's MAC address. If you are not sure how to obtain this, please contact us so that we may assist you. If you have only recently provided us with your MAC address, please allow 24 hours for the changes to take effect.
- You should now be online! If are still unable to surf, contact us for further assistance.
