The Compeer Matching Process

1.The volunteer becomes interested in Compeer.
2. The Coordinator sends the interested person an application.
3. The application is completed and returned.
4. A preliminary interview is set up. The Coordinator and the volunteer meet and get to know each other and discuss the program.
5. On the application there are two references. Each reference is sent a form to fill out and return to Compeer office.
6. A training session is scheduled. It is four hours long and is presented by Compeer staff and other mental health providers in the community.
7. After the training, the actual referral process begins to take place. The Compeer Coordinator explores the pending referrals and the referring therapists to try and match someone with the trained volunteer. The Coordinator describes the volunteer to the therapist and the referral to the volunteer. .
8. Once a match is made, the Coordinator assists in setting up an interview with the volunteer and the therapist.
9. If the above meeting goes well, the match is set up and agreed upon the match is activated.
10. The volunteer meets with their Compeer friend one hour per week. The Coordinator monitors the match monthly by sending out a monthly form. The volunteer fills out the monthly report to log their hours and sends it into the Compeer office.

The people with the Compeer Matching Process

The Volunteer
:
Agrees to participate in volunteer training. After training they are matched with a Compeer friend. They agree to spend one hour per week for one year with their friend. They are responsible for returning a monthly report to the Compeer office which logs their monthly hours and activities.

The Compeer Friend:
Members of the community who receive mental health services. Those who are referred to the Compeer program are often lonely and lack a solid support system.

The Compeer Coordinator:
Meets potential volunteers, helping establish and monitoring the matches made in the Compeer program. The Coordinator is available to discuss ideas, concerns and questions anytime.

The Referring Therapist:
They refer clients to the Compeer program that they feel would benefit and be appropriate for the program. Before a match is activated they meet the volunteer to help the volunteer become better acquainted with their friend. They are sent a copy of the monthly reports in order to monitor progress, concerns and questions the volunteer may have.
