General Questions

What is DSL technology?
DSL technology provides high-speed Internet access by converting your existing analog phone line into a high-speed digital phone line.
What does an "always on" connection mean?
You have a dedicated connection between your computer and our network which is "always on", so there's no more dialing up and no more waiting to get online.
Is an "always on" connection safe?
Unlike cable modems where connections are shared, DSL provides you with a dedicated, more secure connection so your data isn't accidentally viewed by your neighbors. Since no Internet connection is completely secure, it's a good idea to disable file and print sharing features and turn off your modem when not in use.
Do I pay for dbTech’s DSL Internet Service on a usage or per hour basis?
No, you can surf as long as you want for one low flat monthly rate without ever having to pay for extra hours.

Cost

How much does dbTech's DSL Internet Service cost?
Service starts as low as $34.95/month That's frequently less than the combined cost of a second phone line and your current dial-up account.
Is my local phone service included in the cost of DSL Internet Service?
No, the charges for dbTech's Internet Service are in addition to your existing local phone service.

Speed

How fast is DSL Internet Service?
DSL downloads at speeds up to 50 times faster than standard (28.8 Kbps) modems.
How does DSL Internet Service compare to Cable Internet service?
Cable modems operate over a shared connection so download speed varies according to the number of users sharing the network. DSL's dedicated connection provides you more consistent and predictable speeds

How long does it take to get DSL installed?

Does DSL require installing an additional phone line?

Miscellaneous Questions

If I am already a dbTech customer for Internet access, will I be able to keep my e-mail address?
Yes, you'll be able to keep your current e-mail address and use it with your new DSL connection.
How many e-mail addresses do I get with DSL?
dbTech's Residential DSL Internet Service provides you with 1 email account. Additional accounts are available for an additional $2.50 per month. Business accounts start out including 15 email accounts. View our packages for more information.
I already have a DSL modem, can I use it with your service?
More than likely you will be able to. Just send us a note with the manufacturer, model and serial number of your existing DSL modem. We will check it out and get back to you.
I have an existing DSL provider, but I am not happy with the service. What will it cost me to move to your service?
You likely will be able to use your existing modem, and will not require a professional installation.
What is the total startup cost for a newbie with no confidence in doing it myself?
You will find our costs competitive or lower than other providers. If you don't think our competitors are charging you for setup, modem and installation, you had better read the fine print. Our setup costs can be found here.
Other providers will give me the modem for free. Why are you charging me for the modem?
No one ever gives you anything for free. You are paying for the modem by purchasing additional services or an extended contract or some other gimmick. What we do is sell you the modem at our cost. We don't make a dime on it. We know they are expensive. The DSL modems we supply are compatible with most other DSL providers in the US, so your investment isn't lost if you move out of our service area or decide you don't like us.
I have noticed that you folks are pretty blunt on your information pages. Are you trying to scare people away?
No, but we would rather tell a potential customer the truth regarding performance of a particular service, than fill them up with market hype so they feel really good about what they just bought, only to be eventually disappointed. Imagine buying a car and having no idea that it requires the addition of gasoline on a regular basis, and not having been told before the purchase.
